The combine harvester is a motor vehicle used to harvest grain crops (wheat, barley, oats, pulses, oilseeds ) . The combine basically has two functions: reaping and threshing. These two operations, which used to be done separately, are now combined into the same agricultural equipment . The combine has, therefore, enabled enormous productivity gains. Combines are categorized by their way of mowing and by the specific harvesting procedure. First of all you can distinguish between self-propelled harvesters and those who are pulled by other self-propelled vehicles such as tractors. Regarding the category, two categories can be distinguished: The conventional combine and the non-conventional combine harvester also called rotary combine harvester.

Combine harvesters have been developed to reach high performance. Their power can go from 100 up to 400 hp for recent ones . The cutter bar of combine harvesters evolved too by going from 4 m to 12 m for the most recent machines .

A cutting bar is attached to the front of the Combine and takes over the task of mowing. As today's working widths usually exceed 3 to 3.5 meters usually exceed, the cutting bar can be dismantled for transport by road or folded up hydraulically.
