Kemper Header (for forage harvester): General information
A kemper header is an agricultural tool used as an addition to forage harvesters. It can be also mounted on a combine harvester. The forage harvester is a machine that is used to harvest forage in order to make silage. The kemper header is attached to the front of the forage harvester. It can be described as a large fork with big and small spikes that are moved horizontally to the ground. It is used to cut plants such as corn or grass in large quantities. In order not do damage oncoming vehicles in traffic, the kemper header’s sides can be perpendicularly fold up, so that the kemper header’s front is as large as the harvester itself.
There are several manufacturers that major in producing this machine. These produce different makes and models that are equipped with different capabilities. Kemper has several models including the 6008, 360, 4500 and 360 pendulum bracket. They cover different number of rows per trip. People with large scale farms can use the Kemper 6008 or 360 as they both cover 8 rows per trip. The other models cover a slightly lower number of 6 rows per trip. Claas headers also purchase different models. Some of these models can cover up to 10 rows at a time.
New Holland models include the FX crop processor, theRI600, 450 FIE, 895-N4, RI 450 and RU 6 Rangs. Other manufacturers are Krone and Fantini which is ideal for small scale farmers.
